Plainfield, ILLINOIS (May 29, 2013) – Long Beach race winner IndyCar driver, Mike Conway will be joining Dale Coyne Racing for a double-header race at Belle Isle this upcoming weekend in Detroit.
Mike Conway, who last drove at Long Beach earlier this year, will be back in his familiar surroundings this weekend for the Grand Prix of Belle Isle.
“I am very thankful for this opportunity with Dale and look forward to having a race weekend where I will have two chances to race with my fellow competitors,” reported Englishman Mike Conway. “I miss being in the car full time, and teaming with Justin Wilson again will be quite exciting for me.”
Ana “Bia” Beatriz has driven the No. 18 entry of Dale Coyne Racing so far this year. Bia’s program ran through Indy and the team will be looking at several combinations for the summer and fall races.
“First, I want to say what a great job Bia has done in the number 18 car,” remarked Team Owner, Dale Coyne. “I think it was beneficial to run concurrent races with Bia where she could truly show her competitiveness as she did in Brazil and Indy. We are also excited to have a street course racer like Mike Conway join our efforts. Mike has shown over the years how competitive he can be on all types of circuits and we look forward to having our all English team go at it at Belle Isle.”
Mike Conway comes to Belle Isle after an extensive background including winning the British Formula 3 Championship, two years in Formula 1 as a test driver, and this his fifth-year in IndyCar. Mike was the winner of the highly competitive Long Beach Grand Prix in 2011.
After the success of teammate Justin Wilson’s third-place podium at Long Beach, followed by his stellar fifth-place at the Indy 500, where Justin was the highest finishing Honda and set the fastest lap of the race, the two powerhouses together should put forth one of the most competitive efforts for the Dale Coyne Racing team at Detroit.
The IndyCar Series resumes this weekend for the first of three double-header weekends this year for the running of the Dual in Detroit by Quicken Loans. Both races can be seen live on ABC-TV starting at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2.
