Sonoma, CALIFORNIA (August 24, 2013) – Justin Wilson was ready to make a serious claim for the pole position Saturday afternoon during the Firestone Fast 12 qualifying session at Sonoma Raceway. But Wilson’s No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Honda was bumped out by Helio Castroneves in the final minute and will start seventh in Sunday’s Go Pro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.
Wilson has been fast all weekend. He posted the fifth and sixth quickest laps in the previous practice sessions and was the third fastest in group one qualifying, which advanced him into the Firestone Fast 12.
"It's been a good weekend so far,” said Justin Wilson. “We have been fifth & sixth in practice and qualified seventh. We were hoping to break into the Firestone Fast Six, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Everyone on the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America team has done a great job so far this weekend and we will keep pushing forward tomorrow.”
James Davison continued to show what a talented young driver he is on Saturday. In only his second IZOD IndyCar Series race, the 26-year-old Australian came up just short of putting together a quick enough lap to advance him into the next round. Davison’s No. 18 Sonny’s Bar-B-Q Honda will start 21st on the grid Sunday afternoon.
"We were able to qualify ahead of some respectable drivers today,” said rookie driver James Davison. “I am pleased with our results today and think that the No. 18 Sonny's Bar-B-Q team will give me an even faster car for the race tomorrow. I am looking forward to a mistake free race tomorrow and hopefully another top 15 finish for Dale Coyne Racing."
Davison made his first career IZOD IndyCar Series start three weeks ago at Mid-Ohio and drove to an impressive 15th-place finish while finishing on the lead lap.
The Go Pro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma can be seen live on NBC Sports TV starting at 4:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, August 25 with the green flag flying at 4:40 PM (EDT).
