Justin Wilson Posts a Solid Effort in Kansas
Kansas City, Kansas (April 26, 2009) — Dale Coyne Racing driver Justin Wilson turned in a solid effort Sunday in the IndyCar® Series Road Runner Turbo 300 at the 1.5-mile oval Kansas Speedway.
Justin Wilson may have gotten off to a slow start this weekend, but he finished on a high-note as the 30-year old Brit drove his #18 Z-Line Designs car to a 14th place finish Sunday afternoon. He gained three spots during the race and was charging for position at the finish line as the checkered flag dropped.
"It was great to have a good finish in my first oval race of the season,” said Wilson. “The Z-Line Designs car handled well all day and I was charging for position on the last lap but unfortunately I couldn’t complete the pass at the line. The wind was a bit of a challenge but the balance was good, and we kept improving on every stop. I feel better going into Indy knowing we can make positive adjustments and improve during the race.”
Dale Coyne is pleased with the result in Kansas. “We had a solid run today and Justin performed well in the windy Kansas conditions,” said Dale Coyne. “Justin was constantly working hard in the car to improve the balance and made smart decisions during the race.”
The IndyCar Series now shifts to Indianapolis for the month of May in preparation for the 93nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 24. Justin Wilson is looking forward to returning to the famed track at the Brickyard where he made his rookie debut in 2008 and finished 27th. The first official practice begins on Wednesday, May 6 and Pole Day qualifying is slated for Saturday, May 9. “Bump Day” is eight days later on Sunday, May 17.
