SAINT PETERSBURG, Florida – Justin Wilson continued his dominance on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn circuit on streets of downtown St. Petersburg with a ninth place finish in the running of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Sunday afternoon.
This was the sixth time in six races that Wilson has finished in the top 10 on the streets of St. Petersburg. Wilson’s No. 19 Sonny’s Bar-B-Q/Boy Scouts of America Honda started 13th, but spent almost the entire race running in the top 10. The England native worked his way as high as sixth place about 60 laps into the race before ending the day in ninth.
"I think the whole No. 19 Sonny’s Bar-B-Q/Boy Scouts of America team worked hard all weekend,” said Wilson. “We had a really solid race strategy today and had some great pit stops by the team. We finished in the top 10, but we know we could have done better today. We’ll take the finish, but I think we can take everything we learned this weekend and improve on our finish at Barber in two weeks.”
AnaBeatriz’s start to the 2013 season wasn’t quite how she would have liked it to go. On lap 55, the exhaust failed on her No. 18 Ipiranga Honda thus ending her day, but the 28-year Brazilian native did take away a lot of positives from the race Sunday afternoon.
"Itwasn’t the finish we would have liked,” said Beatriz. “But we did learn a lot of things today and the No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing team did an outstanding job all weekend. I am not in the car again until Brazil in about 5 weeks, but I think we will take what we learned today and have a great race there.”
The IZOD IndyCar takes a weekend off before returning to action on the Barber Motorsports road course on Sunday,April 7. The Honda Grand Prix of Alabama can be seen live on NBC Sports TV starting at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, April 7.
