HOUSTON, Texas – Justin Wilson came up just short of making back-to-back podium finishes in Houston this weekend with an impressive fourth place showing in Sunday’s running of Grand Prix of Houston Race 2 at Reliant Park.
But the exciting news was that Wilson’s third and fourth place finishes in Houston this weekend have jumped his No. 19 Boy Scout of America car from sixth into fourth place in the overall IZOD IndyCar Series Championship Point Standings with one race remaining in Fontana, CA in two weeks.
“What a dominating weekend for the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America car,” commented Wilson. “I cannot thank the team enough for what a great car they gave me this weekend in Houston. Plus we had the fastest car on Friday in practice. I am very pleased that we gained two positions in the Championship Point Standings and we are going to try our hardest in two weeks in Fontana to see if we can take third.”
After a strong showing in yesterday’s race, Mike Conway capped off a very successful weekend for Dale Coyne Racing with a ninth place finish in Sunday’s race. Conway’s No. 18 Sonny’s Bar-B-Q car seemed headed to podium finish on Saturday, but a car blocking the safety truck made a tight exit of turn 4 causing him to veer right into the run off and he stalled the car, which ended his hopes at another podium finish with his teammate.
“I was very pleased with our ninth place finish today,” said Conway. “I was just glad that it wasn’t 95 degrees out today. The No. 18 Sonny’s Bar-B-Q team did an awesome job giving me a really competitive car this weekend. I cannot thank Dale Coyne for giving me the chance to compete in all three doubleheader street course races this year. Hopefully we can do this again next year?”
In his six races this season with Dale Coyne Racing this year, he has recorded five Top 10 finishes, including a win in the first race at the Duals in Detroit back in June.
“This was a tremendous weekend for the team,” said Team Owner Dale Coyne. “Justin came very close at back-to-back podium finishes and he was able to get to fourth place in the overall point standings. And Mike showed again what a talented young driver he is with another dominant performance again. The entire team performed brilliantly and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
The IZOD IndyCar Series returns for its season finale under the lights in two weeks when the series visits the very fast two-mile oval at Fontana, CA on October 19. The race can be seen live on the NBC Sports Network starting at 9:00 PM (EDT).
