Team Highlights
Dale Coyne Racing
Dale Coyne Racing is a long standing staple in open-wheel racing. Starting in 1984 as a driver and owner, Dale Coyne ran several seasons of Indy Cars. Coyne was Rookie of the Year at both the Michigan and Pocono 500s. Stepping out of the cockpit in 1990, Coyne turned his talents to the tutelage of several up and coming drivers. From Dean Hall in 1990 to Paul Tracy in 1991 and beyond, Coyne’s ability to help and coach drivers has shown well for those drivers that have competed with this seasoned team.
The past few years in Champ Car have seen drivers like Oriol Servia, Cristiano da Matta and Bruno Junqueira consistently place the No. 19 entry in the top ten. The 2007 season was highlighted with three consecutive podium finishes by Bruno Junqueira, driving the Sonny’s Bar-B-Q Panoz. Junqueira would give the team its highest season finish with seventh in the highly-contested championship.
Dale Coyne Racing is based in Plainfield, Ill. and will consider Chicagoland Speedway its home track.
Dale Coyne
Dale Coyne is a true racer with a long history in Indy car racing. As a driver and owner for five years, and a team owner since, 2008 represents his 25th year in Indy cars. Mr. Coyne is highly respected by his peers. He was the only CART owner to serve on the CART board and USAC board at the same time in the 1990s. Coyne also was picked by his fellow owners to be the interim CEO of CART in 1994 and 1995. The next step for this Midwestern entrepreneur was designing and building Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. This state-of-the-art drag racing facility drew the attention of Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Tony George. George and Coyne, along with International Speedway Corporation, would go on to expand the facility by forming a partnership and building Chicagoland Speedway. Coyne served as president of the facility through its construction and opening season and, along with George, served on its management committee until its eventual buy out by ISC in 2007. Away from racing, Coyne has several business interests. Most notably, he owns a chain of Sonny’s Bar-B-Q restaurants in Florida.
