Dale Coyne Racing Welcomes Dennis Hauger, Enters Technical Partnership with Andretti Global
INDIANAPOLIS, (September 23, 2025) – Dale Coyne Racing announced today that reigning INDY NXT by Firestone Champion Dennis Hauger will pilot one of the Dale Coyne Racing Honda’s for the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. In addition to adding Hauger to the team’s driver lineup, Dale Coyne Racing has entered into a technical partnership with Andretti Global for the upcoming season. Coming off a Championship-winning rookie INDY NXT season, 22-year-old Norwegian driver Hauger secured six wins, five additional podiums, seven poles, 13 top-10 finishes and 301 laps led across 14 races. Additionally, Hauger set multiple qualifying records in 2025, recording the fastest laps in track history on the Streets of Detroit, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Milwaukee Mile. Hauger’s on-track success allowed him to clinch the 2025 INDY NXT Championship at the penultimate race of the season at The Milwaukee Mile. Prior to making his debut in North American open-wheel racing, Hauger advanced through the European racing ranks, capturing the Italian F4 Championship (2019), the FIA Formula 3 Championship (2021) and earning five wins and 13 podiums over three seasons competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship (2022-2024). Hauger will take his first INDYCAR laps in offseason testing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with Dale Coyne Racing and will make his official on-track debut at the 2026 INDYCAR season opener on the Streets of St. Petersburg, February 27 – March 1. DALE COYNE, OWNER, DALE COYNE RACING “This is a great opportunity for us here at DCR to bring on a talented driver and gain a strong technical partner in Andretti Global, Thanks to Dan and his belief in our sport and his dedication to elevating Dennis to the top of the ladder.” DENNIS HAUGER, DRIVER, DALE COYNE RACING “I’m excited to be joining Dale Coyne Racing for my rookie INDYCAR season. The progress the team has shown this year is really impressive, and it’s an honor to take my place on the grid with them in 2026. I want to thank Dale Coyne and everyone at the team for putting their trust in me. It’ll also be nice to see some familiar faces through the team’s technical partnership with Andretti Global. They’ve been a big part of my success since making the switch, so having their involvement in another rookie season for me will be great. I’m looking forward to contributing and starting this next chapter together.”
Dale Coyne Racing Closes Out Season with VeeKay’s 13-Position Gain at Music City GP
Nashville, Tennessee – (Sunday, August 31, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus Veekay (No. 18 Ault Mining Nodes Honda) fought to a 13th-place finish after starting P26, moving up 13 positions in the process. Meanwhile, Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) showed strong pace before late-race damage forced the rookie to pit, ending his day in P23. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 Ault Mining Nodes, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P26, VeeKay made multiple passes on the opening lap, moving into P24 after Lap 1. After an early yellow, VeeKay pitted, getting off the red tires and switching to a new set of primary tires. Using the high line, the Dutchman gained 4 more spots, advancing to P20 in the opening laps of the stint. Staying out long, VeeKay went on to lead multiple laps before pitting on Lap 62. When the Lap 83 yellow flew, VeeKay was in 19th and used the wave-around to get back on the lead lap. Running up to 16th when the Lap 127 caution came out, VeeKay pitted and gained 2 spots on pit road, moving into P14. On the restart, VeeKay worked up to 11th and held on before making his final pit stop on Lap 190 from 4th place. Battling hard, VeeKay fought for a top-10 finish. When a late yellow came out, the Coyne team opted for track position, putting him into P9. Unfortunately, newer tires behind pushed him back to P13—still a 13-position improvement on the day. Post-Race Quote – Rinus VeeKay: "After starting from 26th, finishing 13th is pretty decent, but it’s disappointing because we had a top 10 on the table and didn't capitalize. The car was missing that little bit extra to help me defend, and the way the race played out I couldn't quite hold off the cars on new tires, and that made us fall out of the top 10. Honestly, looking back on this season I'm so happy with myself and this team. The podium at Toronto is something I will remember for a long time, and I'm so thankful to Dale for taking a chance on me when I had no other options. I really love this team and I am so proud of everything we accomplished together. I don't know my 2026 plans quite yet, but I hope to have something sorted out sooner rather than later. Thanks to Honda, the drivability of these cars is amazing, and the fuel numbers I was able to hit this year with them were mind-blowing. That really helped us a lot this season. Also I would like to thank askROI and Ault Mining Nodes for the support this year, everything that they have done for me this season is truly amazing and I'm so grateful for them." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting from P27, Abel focused on a clean start, avoiding any Lap 1 incidents. Staying clean and moving up through the field, Abel ended Lap 1 in P26. Pitting under the Lap 1 yellow, Abel took on fuel only. Running consistent lap times, Abel pitted on Lap 62 from the 16th position. Under the Lap 83 yellow, Abel took the wave-around and pitted for full fuel and tires from P24. Fighting hard, Abel moved into P22 on the restart and climbed to P21 as the run went on, saving his tires. When the Lap 127 yellow came out, Abel elected to pit. Unfortunately, another competitor released into him, forcing the rookie to miss his pit box. In the chaos to get the No. 51 serviced, Abel fell a lap down, ending his chance at a competitive finish. Pitting again on Lap 200, Abel continued to push, but slight contact with the wall caused damage that ended his day. Post-Race Quote – Jacob Abel: "My first INDYCAR season is done. I wish we could have ended it on a higher note, but an incident in pit lane ended those hopes. I want to say thank you to Dale for letting me live out my dream of being an INDYCAR driver. Not many people are able to do this, and to be given the opportunity for a season is not something I take lightly. Now we go into the offseason and get ready for 2026."
Dale Coyne Racing Ends Hard-Fought Weekend at Milwaukee Mile
Milwaukee, Wisconsin – (Sunday, August 24, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) ended his day at the Milwaukee Mile in P15, while teammate Jacob Abel (No. 50 Miller Lite Honda) finished P21, an improvement on his qualifying position. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Showing strong pace, the Dutchman moved up from his P11 starting position into P8 after a handful of yellow flags to begin the race. Staying out long to minimize the risk of a yellow trapping him laps down, VeeKay pitted on lap 56 from P4. With some drivers utilizing an undercut, VeeKay came out in P15 when the pit cycle played through. The Coyne team used this to their advantage, pitting again on lap 97, undercutting competitors and putting VeeKay back to P9 when the cycle played out. When the lap 147 yellow flew, VeeKay pitted from P12 and came out of the pits in P11. VeeKay held P11 and worked his way up into P8 before pitting on lap 191 for full fuel and tires. Taking tires only under the lap 209 yellow, VeeKay rejoined in P15 as strategy played out, with some cars staying out and a slower stop limiting track position. Pushing hard on new tires, VeeKay fought until the end, even making contact with other competitors while battling for position. When the checkered flag flew, VeeKay ended his day in P15. Post-Race Quote: "That was tough, we had pretty good pace today but we just did not maximize like we have for most of this year. our last stop was a bit slow and that put us on the backfoot for that last stint where I think we could have gotten 9th had everything worked out. The tires fell off a bit move than we expected and I was battling with a bit of oversteer all day but our pace was better than we finished. We have had a bit of a rough past 3 races, we had contact with others in our last 2 and here we did not maximize our finish here. We have one more race left next week and I think we can end on a high note. Thank you to askROI and Honda for all the help they have been this season, nothing we do here would be possible without them." Jacob Abel – No. 50 Miller Lite, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting from P22, Abel focused on having a clean start, trying not to be caught up in any Lap 1 incidents. In his new Miller Lite livery and new number 50 for the weekend, Abel pitted from P8 on lap 59. When the lap 105 yellow flew, Abel was in P17 and pitted for new tires and fuel. Abel continued to battle hard, and when the lap 142 yellow flew, he pitted once again from P23. Holding this position until his next stop on lap 191, Abel pitted again for full fuel and tires. Coming in for tires only during the lap 209 yellow, Abel had fresh rubber to finish the race. Using this to his advantage, Abel worked his way up into P21, finishing the day with an improvement on his starting position in the 27-car field. Post-Race Quote: "We improved on our qualifying position which is always good and we learned a lot for next weekends race. It was amazing being able to run this Miller Paint scheme this weekend. Its an honor to be apart of something so cool and have somethign in common with past legends to run with Miller in a place so historic like Milwaukee. This is definitely one of the coolest livery's I've ever been able to run and id like to thank everyone over at Miller for coming on board for this weekend."

VeeKay Battles to P17 After Early Contact; Abel Gains Four Spots in Portland
Portland, Oregon – (Sunday, August 10, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) fought to 17th after early contact and damage put the Dutch driver to the back of the field, while Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) ran consistently in the top 15 before a late pit stop dropped him to P23, up four spots from his starting position on the day. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P23, VeeKay made multiple passes on the opening lap to put the Dutchman in P20 after Lap 1. After an early yellow, VeeKay stayed out, and when the green flag flew, he spun in Turn 2 after contact with another driver. After a yellow flag flew for debris from the contact, VeeKay pitted so the Dale Coyne crew could change his tires and check for damage. Unfortunately, none of the damage could be fixed on pit lane. This pit stop forced VeeKay onto an alternate strategy, having the veteran stay out when a majority of the field pitted on Lap 15, putting VeeKay into P8. Holding position while fuel saving, VeeKay came in on Lap 41 for full fuel and alternate tires, pitting from P6. Getting clean air, VeeKay pushed hard; however, the car balance felt off due to the early damage. Once again working his way up to P6, this time on a full push, VeeKay pitted on Lap 66 for alternate tires and full fuel. Having to pit early for the damage check meant VeeKay had to make another stop to make it to the end on fuel, putting him down to P21 on Lap 83 with fresh alternate tires and fuel to push as hard as he could. Cutting up the field, VeeKay finished in P17, a six-place improvement on his starting position. Post-Race Quote: "Tough race, we started 23rd and moved my way up to 20th on the start. On the first restart we got hit from behind and got a bit of damage. We had to pit and actually we were on a good strategy pitting early around lap 10, we were sitting in 8th and had diffuser damage. Unfortunately we didn’t get our tire pressures in the right window on the second and third stint, that messed with my pace and ultimately hurt my race, we just didn’t have the pace and had to do 4 pit stops because of that. It’s a bummer, we were pretty decent at the end but overall a hard day in general. I think we still maximized , it’s nothing great, it’s one of our worst finishing results of the season, but as long as we can maximize and get decent results we can be proud of our season. No more right turns, only going left for this season, so hopefully we can get some more top 10s on the ovals. Huge thanks to askROI for everything they do for me, they even sponsored this race so it’s always fun to see the whole askROI and BITNILE group out and having fun." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting from P27, Abel focused on having a clean start, trying not to be caught up in any Lap 1 incidents. Staying clean on the opening laps and moving up the field, Abel ended Lap 1 in P25. Pitting on the Lap 3 yellow, Abel filled up on fuel and put on Firestone alternate tires. With this early pit stop, when the Lap 15 yellow flew, the Dale Coyne team decided to stay out and take a chance on fuel, putting the No. 51 into P11. Using this track position, Abel worked into 10th before showcasing masterful defensive driving to hold off the fresh tires behind him for 20 laps, before coming into pit on Lap 39 from P10. On this pit stop, Abel’s team put on Firestone alternate tires and full fuel. Working all the way back up to P11, Abel came in once again on Lap 70, once again putting on alternate tires and full fuel. Abel’s gamble on more caution laps to help make it to the end on fuel unfortunately fell short. This forced Abel to pit with 10 laps to go, dropping the rookie driver to P23, where he would eventually finish, a four-place improvement on his starting position. Post-Race Quote: "This weekend hasn't gone the way we wanted it to, after starting in the back we took a gamble to get track position, we had good pace, we held off the leaders on the primary strategy for like 20 laps and we had the pace to stay in the top 10. We needed some yellows to help us with our fuel number that never came which is unfortunate, but that's racing sometimes. We learned a lot this weekend and I think we have some good momentum for our last 2 races of this season. We have a week off to regroup before we make one last push to finish off the season."
Dale Coyne Racing Battles Through Adversity at Monterey
Monterey, California – (Sunday, July 27, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) gets hit into the gravel after gaining 5 spots, while teammate Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) had his promising day end early after a braking issue in Turn 2. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P17, VeeKay made multiple passes on the opening lap to put the Dutchman in P13 after Lap 1. Running clean laps, VeeKay gained another position, putting him P12 when the Lap 11 caution flew. Deciding to pit during this caution, the Dale Coyne crew put on black tires, putting VeeKay 2nd on this alternative strategy. While running consistent lap times and holding position, VeeKay was hit in the rear by another competitor, sending him into the gravel and unable to move. This would send VeeKay 2 laps down, ending his chances at a successful day. Pitting for new tires and checking damage, the Coyne crew saw floor damage that was unable to be fixed. Electing to stay on track to salvage any points possible but slightly off pace due to the damage. Determined not to give up, even if unable to pass or defend due to the command blue ruling, VeeKay ran the remaining laps, pitting on Lap 53 and 77 for alternate tires and full fuel. The decision to push through the adversity paid off in the end, gaining 1 position and additional points salvaging any points possible and maximizing an unfortunate situation. Post-Race Quote: "Today started out good, strategy would have been good, the pitting under that second yellow and shaving a pit stop off was good, we had good pace moving forward, good at the start up to 12th, we were moving hard, getting people on strategy at that point until I got hit in the back pretty aggressively, got stuck and beached, so couldn't do much. Had floor damage. We finished the race and got a few points for finishing and that's about all. It's unfortunate, we had good pace, I think a top 10 or 5 was there, and just a bummer that stuff like this happens. Nothing we could do. That's racing at the end. Sometimes you're the victim of others' mistakes. The 18 and askROI crew gave me a good car to fight at the front edge of the field. Felt strong, felt dominant but unfortunately a passenger. Looking forward to the BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland my sponsor's race! Weekend off to regroup for the last right turns of the season and ready to keep doing what we have been doing this season and maximize our performances." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting from P21, Abel focused on having a clean start, trying not to be caught up in any Lap 1 incidents. Staying clean on the opening laps and moving up the field, Abel ended Lap 1 in P19. Staying out on the Lap 1 yellow, Abel began to settle into the race. With his tires coming up to temperature, Abel ran his fastest lap of the race on Lap 10, pushing to try and gain more track position. On Lap 11, Abel experienced a mechanical issue in Turn 2, forcing the rookie into the wall ending what was a promising day. Post-Race Quote: "We had such good pace, we were moving up the field when a mechanical issue ended my day in Turn 2. It's tough, we had good pace all weekend but we just couldn't finish the weekend off. I think this week off before Portland will be a good reset for everybody. We have 3 more weekends to show just how good our pace can be. We all just need to execute and maximize our days."
Dale Coyne Racing Back On The Podium After P2 Finish On Streets Of Toronto
Toronto, Canada – (Sunday, July 20, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) gets his first podium of the season, finishing P2 after battling for the win in the closing laps, while teammate Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) had his day end early after an early crash while battling for P11. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P9, VeeKay knew this was a good opportunity for a podium after moving forward double-digit positions in the races leading up to this weekend. After a Lap 1 yellow, VeeKay had moved up to P8. When the early yellow came out, VeeKay stayed out, putting the Dutchman into P2 on track behind championship leader Alex Palou. Holding onto the green tires for as long as possible and fending off cars behind with fresh tires, VeeKay came in to pit onto fresh Firestone primary tires and full fuel on Lap 14. On his next stint, VeeKay focused on saving tires to go as long as possible. When the Lap 30 yellow flew, this allowed the No. 18 to stay out and gain track position back up to 3rd, and be able to finish the race with only one more pit stop. When the Lap 40 yellow flew, the top two cars pitted, handing the lead to VeeKay, forcing the Dutch driver to fight off cars with fresher tires on the upcoming stint. Driving a breathtaking stint, VeeKay held onto the lead for 16 laps before coming in for his final pit stop of the day. Pitting on Lap 56, the Dale Coyne Racing team had to fill a full tank of fuel along with scuffed Firestone primary tires. Unfortunately, the No. 5 car had less fuel to fill, leading to a faster pit stop and allowing the No. 5 to overtake VeeKay. Running hard, VeeKay did all he could to make a pass for the win. Unfortunately, VeeKay could not get a pass made, finishing P2, Dale Coyne Racing’s first podium since 2023. This performance moves VeeKay into P11 in the points standings and ties VeeKay’s personal best of 7 top-10s in a season, with 4 races still remaining. Post-Race Quote: "Very exciting day, we had a great day, we made a lot happen on strategy, we had some great pace too, it was really unknown before the race what was going to be the good strategy. A lot of yellow, but that helped us in the middle of the race. It was a really good day, we made the right decision again on strategy for the team, we did the 2-stop that not a lot of people were able to do, that’s all thanks to Honda for the great fuel saving and drivability to keep the rears on it was awesome. This still needs to sink in, just so awesome, so happy to have a good result, we have had a few good results but P2 was all we could do today. So happy for my whole team and askROI, I’m so happy to be able to get on the podium for everyone." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting from P27, Abel focused on having a clean start, trying not to be caught up in any Lap 1 incidents. Staying clean on the opening laps, the Coyne team kept Abel out, moving him up to P13. Running consistent laps, Abel came to pit during the Lap 15 yellow, putting on Firestone alternate green tires. Abel pitted once again on Lap 23 to fulfill his tire requirement for the race while staying on the lead lap. When the Lap 30 yellow flew, Abel was in prime position to move up the field, jumping all of the cars who pitted under the yellow, moving all the way up to P11. Holding off cars on fresher tires, Abel got moved up mid-corner and hit again late in the corner, forcing the rookie into the wall. He was then hit from behind by his competitors who could not avoid the stopped Abel, ending his day. Post-Race Quote: "First off, huge congratulations to Rinus, so happy to see him on the podium today. For us, really tough weekend, disappointing after such a great Iowa race leading into this. We had good pace and moved up into the gray and pushed into the wall. We had really good pace all weekend but never had the chance to show it. We have a short turnaround into Laguna so it will be a good reset to rebound from this weekend."
Jacob Abel makes last lap pass to Achieve Career Best Finish
Newton, Iowa – (Sunday, July 13, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Jacob Abel secured a career-best P11, making a last-lap pass on teammate Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda), who benefitted from a late-race strategy call that put the Dutch driver in position to capitalize on the day. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI Honda, Dale Coyne Racing Started: P26 Entered the day with confidence after gaining 9 spots in Race 1 from a similar starting position. By Lap 20, had moved up to P22 while staying clean and consistent. When a yellow flew on Lap 50, VeeKay was running P21. He took the wave-around and pitted for tires and fuel. On the next stint, moved up to P20, then used another wave-around and pit stop under the Lap 130 yellow to gain a position and advance to P18. Ran until Lap 170, when another yellow came out. This time pitting from the lead lap, the Dale Coyne Racing crew gained him more spots, putting him in P15. This stop gave VeeKay the flexibility to stretch fuel to the end with a slight save, removing the need for an additional pit stop. When another yellow fell on Lap 254, VeeKay had advanced to P7. The team opted not to pit, prioritizing track position while others took new tires. In the final sprint, VeeKay fought hard to defend against fresher tires, ultimately finishing P12, up 14 positions on the day. Post-Race Quote – Rinus VeeKay: "We decided to stay out and go for a big number, and our pace went out the window just to hit that number. A lot of people gave up and pitted early, but our plan was always to stay out as long as possible for when the yellow came, and that’s exactly what happened. We cycled up to 7th, and then decided to stay out on 80-something lap old tires. That was one of the scariest things I’ve done. I couldn’t race hard, new tires all around me so that was tough, and I just had to make sure I brought it home. I’d say P12 and P16 in two races starting almost last is not bad. Also, Jacob had by far his best finish, so things are really working out for him huge points day for the entire team. Everyone just did a great job. Huge thanks to everyone, and to Honda and askROI they’re the reason I can do this, and I’m so thankful for that. It’s been a blast working with both of them." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction Honda, Dale Coyne Racing Started: P25 Entered motivated to rebound from an early crash in Race 1 after showing strong pace. Moved up to P23 by Lap 10, then pitted for fuel to load the car up for the restart. Ran consistent lap times and used the Lap 50 yellow to take the wave-around, followed by a stop for tires and fuel. Repeated the strategy under the Lap 130 yellow, again utilizing the wave-around and pitting for service. Gained valuable laps and car knowledge after limited track time in Race 1, and pitted again on Lap 186, staying on the lead lap. Committed to a long run, the rookie worked his way up to P14 through strong pace and consistent lap times. When the yellow flew on Lap 254, the team brought him in for fresh tires to give him a shot in the 11-lap dash to the finish. Abel drove a superb final stint, climbing to P11, up 14 positions his best career finish. Sealed the result with a thrilling drag race over teammate VeeKay at the line, edging him out by 0.02 seconds. Post-Race Quote: "For a second there we were trying to hit a big fuel to get it to the end on a fuel sav , we ended up bailing on it because we would have went 2 laps down but ultimately it worked in our favor because we could go longer a catch the yellow and dip in for tires at the end. It was a fun battle with Rinus and Santino there it was pretty fun, it kinda came out of no where. Its really good to get such a good result especially after yesterday. The team has shown a lot of resilience this weekend and that's the theme of this year, stay positive every race is a new opportunity and your weekend is never really over until its over. "
Rinus VeeKay Gains 9 Spots at Iowa as Abel’s Race Ends Early
Newton, Iowa - (Saturday, July 12, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) moved up 9 positions during the race, while Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) fell victim to an early incident that took him out of contention. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P25, VeeKay focused on keeping his nose clean and worked his way up the field methodically. After a Lap 1 yellow, VeeKay had moved up to P24. He then stayed out, focusing on maintaining track position and ran until the yellow came out again for teammate Jacob Abel on Lap 74, at which point he was running P25. During this yellow, the Dale Coyne Racing crew gained him one spot on pit road, putting the Dutch driver into P24. On his next stint, VeeKay began his pursuit up the field, working masterfully to P19 when the yellow fell again on Lap 153. Once again pitting with the field, VeeKay came out up two positions in P17. Holding onto this position, VeeKay pitted one final time on Lap 242 from P4 and came out in P16. Running hard until the end including setting his fastest lap on the final lap VeeKay held onto P16, a strong points day that keeps the veteran driver in P13 in the overall championship standings. Post-Race Quote: "Today has been interesting. We had decent balance in practice, but when we went into qualifying, it seemed to go away. We hit the wall and had to lift, which put us starting at the back. We made a swing going into the race and ended up in a decent spot. It was hard to pass, but we moved up the field with pit stops and, honestly, just having a mistake-free day. I’m not happy with P16, as I do think we could have picked up a few more spots, but I am happy that even our bad days are still decent points days. We get one more opportunity to grab those spots and another opportunity to improve the car. Thanks to askROI and Honda for their continued support I'm looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting from P26, Abel ran consistent lap times in the early portion of the race. While fuel-saving, Abel was lapped by the leader but managed to hold off the remaining leaders for a number of laps. When the remaining cars began to pass, the rookie pushed up into the marbles and into the wall, causing race-ending damage. With the early contact, Abel finished P27 on the day. Post-Race Quote: "Well, I think I can officially say that was my first real INDYCAR crash. Seriously, I'm sorry to the guys these doubleheaders are already tough on the crew, and giving them more work is the last thing I wanted to do. While I was getting lapped, I got pushed up into the marbles and went straight into the wall. It’s definitely a learning experience for me, and if there’s a positive to take from it, it’s that I learned. Looking ahead to tomorrow, I think we can find some more speed overnight and really show what this No. 51 crew is capable of."
Top 10 Streak Continues for Veekay While Also Receiving Jostens Biggest Mover Award With P9 Finish
Lexington, Ohio (Sunday, July 6, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) finds himself continuing his top-10 streak to three races and wins the Johnston’s Biggest Mover Award, while teammate Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) showed great pace, finishing three spots up from his starting position. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P26, VeeKay began on alternate tires. After a Lap 1 yellow, VeeKay had moved up to P20. He then proceeded to push hard all the way to P8. before pitting on Lap 30 after seeing a slow car on track, which shortly after brought out a yellow. This yellow cycled VeeKay to P11, only needing one more pit stop to complete the race. On his next stint, VeeKay worked his fuel number masterfully while also moving up to P7. before pitting on Lap 60 for his final stop of the day. During this stop, outside rear tire changer Nicolas Don and airjack operator Jose Carlos Sedano were struck by an opposing car. Don received the worst of the impact, with his ankle going under the car’s rear tires. Don, in high spirits, commented that he still finished the pit stop despite being run over at the ankle. Don has since been seen and released by the INDYCAR Medical Team, whom he would also like to thank for their assistance during the incident. With the No. 18 team showing grit and determination to complete their final stop, VeeKay carried that energy forward, working into a P9 position sealing his spot as the day’s biggest mover gaining the Jostens Biggest Mover Award extending his top 10 streak to three races. Post-Race Quote: "After qualifying P26 it is not a given to finish top 10, we made a really good call pitting when it was about to go yellow, unfortunately on the last stop Kyffin stalled deep in his box making the last stop difficult. Fortunately Nico my outside rear tire changer is somewhat ok, Really happy with the result, that's top 10 number 6 of the season and second time being biggest mover so super super satisfied, car was really good, Honda milage gave me a great fuel save while also keeping pace. Just a great day. Huge thanks to askROI and Honda again for making this all possible, we have had a good season of maximizing performances so I'm excited for what the rest of the season holds." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda After starting the race on primary tires, Abel moved up to P20 from his P25 starting spot when the Lap 1 yellow flag came out. On the next stint, Abel held his position eventually moving up to P13 and came in to pit on Lap 26. A yellow came out a few laps after his pit stop, giving Abel a jump up to P15 as cars that had not pitted were shuffled to the back. Abel put his head down and continued forward, coming in to pit again on Lap 52 to refuel and get new tires from P13. He continued to push, running consistent lap times until making another stop on Lap 72. Pushing until the end, Abel finished P22, three spots up from his P25 starting position. Post-Race Quote: "Overall we had a mistake free day which is a good step. We had good pace but just never had the track position on our strategy to make it a good finish. I think once we get qualifying sorted out we will be pretty good! I loved racing around this place, its a home track to me and it was a blast racing around it for the first time in an INDYCAR. This is the first race of 5 in a row so we can build on this performance and hit our stride here coming up."
Another Top 10 For Rinus Veekay Despite Multiple Penalties While Jacob Abel Gains 5 Spots Despite Damage
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin (Sunday, June 22, 2025) Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) finds himself in a familiar position, finishing yet again in the top 10 for the fifth time in nine races. Teammate Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) ran as high as P5 and was on for his best finish of the season before a loss of power slowed the rookie to P23 out of 27 cars. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P22 on alternate tires, VeeKay stayed out of trouble and remained on track during the Lap 1 yellow period, moving up into P19. During the following restart, VeeKay received a penalty for jumping the restart, forcing the Dutch driver to drop to the rear. He served this penalty under the Lap 3 yellow, opting to pit after dropping back. Unfortunately, this pit stop resulted in a drive through penalty on the upcoming restart for pitting after dropping to the rear of the field. The drive through turned into a blessing in disguise for the No. 18 team, as it placed them on an alternate strategy that ended up becoming beneficial for the team by race end. VeeKay stayed out during the Lap 10 caution, which moved him up to P8 as most of the field was forced to pit for fuel. Working up to P4, he pitted during the Lap 22 yellow for fuel and a fresh set of alternate tires, rejoining in P19 but in a stronger fuel position than many ahead. During the final yellow of the day on Lap 30, VeeKay stayed out again, committing to a fuel save strategy and restarting in P9. After an eventful stint, he pitted on Lap 39 from P10. That stint included an avoidable contact penalty for contact with another driver and then becoming the victim of another avoidable contact incident himself, nearly ending the 18 cars day. Finishing the race on alternate tires, VeeKay saved fuel while still fighting for position showing great pace and making passes. He finished the day in P10, gaining 12 spots and moving into 14th in the points standings. The Coyne team now looks ahead to Mid-Ohio to continue this momentum. Post-Race Quote: "Another Top 10, up 12 positions from the start, another good weekend this was a messy one with a lot of cars going off, I was in the mayhem as well, I got hit one time by someone and lost a few posiotns, we had some incredible pace on a big fuel save, the guys on the stand gave me the perfect number and I had the perfect car to hit that number and have good pace. Really good job, we have had top 10 pace at every race but one, that's really promising heading into the crazy month of July, I think we really have a great car and if we keep getting into that top 10 we will get some luck and bring home some hardware. Week off for everybody, 5 top 10s in 9 races and all but one of them we had the pace to be up in the top 10. Huge thanks to my whole team for getting all the pace this season, and huge thanks to askROI for their support and Honda for a motor that can allow me to save fuel so well and still have great pace." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda After starting the race on primary tires, Abel spun on Lap 1 after contact with another driver, resulting in minor damage for the remainder of the race. During the Lap 1 yellow, Abel pitted to refuel and allow the team to assess and address repairable damage. He remained focused and showed strong pace despite the damage. With extra fuel on board, the Coyne team kept him out during the Lap 10 caution, putting him in P5 for the restart. He pitted again on Lap 20, having demonstrated competitive pace. When the Lap 22 yellow came out, most of the field pitted while the No. 51 stayed out, moving him up to P12. Working back into the top 5, the Lap 30 caution gave the team an opportunity to pit again for fuel and fresh tires. Unfortunately, during the following stint, Abel experienced reduced power due to an engine issue that caused him to fall through the field. Determined to finish, Abel kept pushing even with limited power and crossed the line in P23—a result not indicative of the pace the No. 51 car had all day. Post-Race Quote: "One of these days we will get the result we deserve. We were running great, in the top 5 even at points and we were on the road for at least a top 15 but unfortunalty we had a loss of power that made me fall through the field. Im disapointed because a P23 finish isnt where my team and partners should be after such a great day, but thats racing at the end of the day. This team is building, I can feel it I know the results will come soon."
Veekay Finishes Top 10 And Gains 11 Spots In Bommarito Automotive Group 500
Madison, Illinois (Sunday, June 15, 2025) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) moved up the field, gaining 11 spots and finishing P7 in the first short oval race of the season. Meanwhile, teammate Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) also moved up, gaining 6 spots to finish P21 in his first-ever short oval race in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Started the race in P18 and moved up to P16 by the end of the opening lap. Took advantage of the Lap 47 yellow flag to pit from 18th, exiting pit lane in 15th after gaining 3 spots thanks to the Dale Coyne Racing crew. Extended his second stint longer than most of the field, reaching as high as 3rd before pitting on Lap 104. When the Lap 130 caution came out, he was in P13. After pit stops, he gained another spot to P12. Staying out long again and briefly taking the race lead before pitting on Lap 194 just one lap before a caution that would have positioned him as the leader Veekay exited the pits in p8. Restarting in P8 following the yellow and, after some intense racing and slight contact with another driver, took a conservative approach and only lost one position, despite the contact and damage. Pitted from P2 on Lap 240 giving him 20 laps to attack with fresh tires and gain track position. Using the advantage of low fuel and new tires to pass Alex Palou and nearly overtake Conor Daly on the closing laps. Finished the race in P7, an 11 spot gain overall and putting VeeKay top 15 in the points standings. Post-Race Quote “We had a good race car, the car really came to us as it got colder it just got better and better, we saved the best for last I'm really happy with the handling and how we progressed as a team this weekend. Had some pretty crazy racign at the end, almost crashed the car but we didnt, and even passed 2 cars after. Overall just a great day. As always huge thanks to askROI and Honda for making everything we do here possible.” Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting in P27 and took advantage of the Lap 4 yellow to pit for fuel only. Moving up to P24 and using the Lap 47 yellow to take the wave-around and return to the lead lap, while also pitting for more fuel and tires. Reached P10 before pitting on Lap 103, reporting understeer early in the race but feeling good with the car overall. Working up to P18 before pitting again under yellow on Lap 141 a lap before the wave around took affect Abel remained a lap down, running P19. Pitting from P22 on Lap 192 for tires and full fuel just before the lap 195 caution. Taking the caution as another opportunity to top off with fuel, giving the rookie driver more flexibility on the remaining strategy. Climbing to P16 before making a final stop on Lap 252 for tires and fuel. Finished in P21, a 6-position improvement from his starting place. Post-Race Quote “Another frustrating day today, we had a great car, I could pass and was moving up the field from where we started, but we missed an opportunity to wave around and that cost us the chance at a better finish. We will get better and learn, all we can do is look forward. We have had good cars these past 2 weeks, now we need to get the results to show it.”
Abel Receives Career-Best Finish in Detroit Despite Early Damage
Detroit, Michigan (Sunday, March 2, 2025) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Jacob Abel (No. 51 Blue Oval SK Honda) secured a career-best finish despite sustaining early damage on Lap 1 of the 100-lap race. His teammate Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) suffered an early mechanical issue that forced the Dutch driver to retire from 7th place. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race on alternate tires, VeeKay found himself in P7 after the opening laps of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. While battling to move up the field, VeeKay lost drive and reported a vibration in the car, forcing him into the pits and ultimately out of the race. VeeKay finishes what started as a promising weekend in P27. The Dale Coyne Racing team is still investigating the cause of the mechanical issue. Post-Race Quote “I was saving my right front, trying to make the greens last as long as possible, and coming onto the main straightaway, I suddenly had no power lost a lot of power and too many positions. I tried to fix it any way I could out there, but there was a big vibration, so clearly a major mechanical issue. Really unfortunate because we qualified really well and had great pace. It could have been a really good day, but unfortunately, we just didn’t have the luck we needed.” Jacob Abel – No. 51 BlueOval SK, Dale Coyne Racing Honda After starting the race on primary tires, Abel was in P20 by the end of Lap 1. During that lap, he was hit in the rear by another competitor, which damaged the rear floor and caused a loss in downforce. Abel remained focused and pushed through the damage, pitting under the Lap 14 caution for a new set of tires. On Lap 55, Abel pitted from P20 for fuel and new tires, losing a lap while stationary in pit lane. During the Lap 67 caution period, the Coyne team utilized the wave-around to get Abel back on the lead lap. They also pitted for a splash of fuel to ensure he could make it to the finish. At Lap 84, the team made a strategic gamble by pitting for fresh alternate tires to gain a performance advantage over the field. Abel battled through the damage and climbed as high as 14th after restarting 18th. Unfortunately, tire degradation and lingering damage began to take effect, and Abel slipped to P18 by the finish, a career-best result for the young American driver. Post-Race Quote “Overall, it was a bit of an unlucky day for us in the No. 51 car after knowing we had a strong race car heading into today. On Lap 1, we got hit hard in the rear and had a bunch of damage that we were nursing for the rest of the race. We made a risky strategy call at the end that looked like it might pay off we were passing a few cars but ultimately, the green tires fell off near the end. That said, we had much better pace this weekend than we’ve had before, made a lot of improvements, and it’s a solid weekend we can build on moving forward.”

Detroit, Michigan (Saturday, May 31, 2025) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) Narrowly misses out on Firestone Fast 6 while teammate Jacob Abel (No. 51 BlueOval SK Honda) shows great pace qualifying in the Top 20 despite missing out on his planned final lap of qualifying Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda VeeKay took to the track in Group 1, Round 1 of qualifying on primary Firestone tires. The veteran used the early laps to warm up his tires and brakes, setting a banker lap before pitting. The Dale Coyne Racing crew then fitted a set of alternate Firestone tires. VeeKay posted a time of 01:01.371, advancing into the Firestone Fast 12. At the start of the Fast 12 session, he ran on a set of scuffed alternate tires to complete his banker lap. Switching to a fresh set of Firestone alternates, VeeKay recorded a lap of 01:00.720, placing him P6 temporarily before being bumped to P7 in the final moments. This marks a strong qualifying result for the No. 18 askROI Honda in Michael Cannon’s return to Dale Coyne Racing. The team will start P6 in tomorrow’s race after penatlies to other competitors. Post-qualifying quote: "AHH—good qualifying! I'm really satisfied with my lap during the Fast 12 session for the Chevy Grand Prix of Detroit. We had a really strong car and just barely missed out on the Fast 6, but I think we maximized what we had. This was our best street course qualifying of the year and my first qualifying session with Michael Cannon. The car is awesome I can really race with it, and we can move forward. I believe a podium is a realistic goal for us tomorrow. Big thanks to askROI for their continued support and to Honda for giving me such a great engine on these street courses!" Jacob Abel – No. 51 Blue Oval SK, Dale Coyne Racing Honda The rookie took to the track on the alternate Firestone tires for his Banker lap. Abel then pitted for the Dale Coyne Racing crew to give him another set of alternate tires. During this pitstop the crew fixed a slight technical gremlin costing the team approximately 15 seconds where the rookie was forced to be stationary on pit road Abel went on to set a lap time of 01:01.7311 While this lap was competitive and put the rookie in the Top 20 to start the race, Abel narrowly missed out on another fast lap due to the stationary time in the pits. Abel will start tomorrow's race in P20 out of the 27-car field Post-qualifying quote: "Wow, this car is fun to drive. Overall, it was a good day for the No. 51 car. We had our best qualifying to date, and I feel like there was even more potential out there. We missed our last lap by just a couple of seconds, and I think we could have gained a few more spots on the grid. All in all, a huge thanks to BlueOval SK for coming on board this weekend, and to Honda for all their support."
Dale Coyne Racing Announces Engineering Re-Set
Plainfield, IL (May 28, 2025) — Dale Coyne Racing announced today a comprehensive engineering re-set for the remainder of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, long Time INDYCAR engineer Michael Cannon will engineer driver Rinus Veekays #18 askROI Honda while Mike Culliver former DCR engineering consultant is set to engineer Jacob Abels #51 entry. “I would first like to thank Ed Nathman and John Dick for helping us get to this point in our 2025 season,” said team owner Dale Coyne. “Our driver lineup came together very late in the offseason, and we appreciate both Ed and John stepping in to get us on track so quickly. I’m also very excited to welcome back Michael Cannon and Mike Culliver to the Dale Coyne Racing team for the remainder of the year.” Michael Cannon returns to Dale Coyne Racing, where he spent six years (2014–2019) engineering a range of drivers. He will take over as the lead engineer on the No. 18 askROI Honda driven by Rinus VeeKay. “I’ve always had a great deal of respect for Dale and the way he assembles his team,” said Cannon. “It’s great to be back, and I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish together in the races ahead.” VeeKay echoed that sentiment: “I want to thank Ed for giving me a great car at Barber, where we earned our best finish of the season so far. I’ve known Michael for some time and have a lot of respect for his engineering talent. I’m excited to work with him as we continue to build momentum.” Mike Culliver also returns to the organization after serving as a consulting engineer in 2024. Most recently, he engineered Ryan Hunter-Reay at this year’s Indianapolis 500, where the American driver was running up front and contending for the win before an issue on the final pit stop ended his chance at a victory at the famed race.” “I’ve worked with Jacob before, and I’m confident in his abilities,” said Culliver. “We’ve got a lot to prove, and I’m ready to get to work. I’ve always enjoyed working with this team and group of people. I know what this team is capable of, and I’m excited to contribute however I can.” Jacob Abel, a Louisville native, welcomed Culliver's return: “I’ve worked with Mike in the past and believe he’s the perfect fit for everything we’re aiming to achieve moving forward. I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running in Detroit and beyond.”
Rinus VeeKay Moves From 31st to P6 Before Incident Coming To Pit Road Ends His Day
Indianapolis, Indiana (Sunday, May 25, 2025) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) climbed through the field and into the top 10 before spinning out while entering pit road for his third scheduled pit stop of the day, ending what had been a promising start. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race in P31, VeeKay opted to take minimal risk in the early portion of the race. He made his first stop during the early yellow on Lap 7, taking fuel only. During the Lap 19 caution, the Dale Coyne Racing team chose to stay out, relying on the fuel added during Lap 7 to take a chance at gaining track position. The calculated risk paid off, as VeeKay found himself in P6 and showing strong pace heading into his second stop on Lap 45 his first pit stop involving a tire change. On the cusp of the lead lap after his stop, VeeKay kept his focus and emerged in P11 after the pit cycle was completed. He worked his way up to P6 before coming in for his third scheduled stop of the day on Lap 81. While entering pit lane, the car spun and made contact with the wall thankfully away from any crew members preparing to service cars. Post race Quote "I pitted for tires and fuel as planned for our strategy. I had already made a pit stop at speed earlier in the race without any issues, and I approached this one (Lap 81) the same way. As I was entering pit lane, I was doing about 120 MPH and suddenly had no response from the brakes. At that point, I was trying to hit the brakes as hard as possible. I locked up the left rear, and the car came around on me. I feel so bad for the No. 18 crew, askROI, and the entire Dale Coyne Racing team. It’s such a bummer we were doing really well, moving forward, and finally able to race. It’s really unfortunate, and I’m not totally sure if there was anything I could have done to anticipate it."

Post-Race Quote “Awesome strategy. Great job to the whole Dale Coyne Racing team for all the work that got put in overnight to make the car quick. Gave me a great strategy, and all I needed to do was be the quickest guy out there. I’m having a lot of fun, we have a really good group of people working together, and we have had a season of just maximizing our position out of the car. Pitting as early as we did to undercut everyone was made possible by Honda mileage, which is really good around here. Huge thanks to askROI for making this possible. I’m happy to be getting them some good results these past few weeks.” Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda • After starting the race on alternate tires, Abel settled into the race, showing competitive pace early. • Abel’s first stop of the day came on Lap 17, putting on Firestone alternate tires. After not getting full fuel on this stop, the team was forced into an alternate strategy. • Forced to make an extra pit stop on Lap 29, Abel was put onto the primary tires. • Coming out in front of the leaders, Abel showcased his defensive driving skills and competitive pace, holding off the leaders for many laps to stay on the lead lap for as long as possible. • Pitting on Lap 45, Abel’s crew put on alternate tires to help the rookie move up the order. • On Lap 50, Abel set his fastest lap of the race, recording a time of 01:12.851. • After running as high as P19, Abel’s car shut off coming to pit road for his final stop of the day. The Dale Coyne Racing crew was unable to refire the car, ending a promising day. Post race quote "That was tough. We had great pace and I felt confident in the setup for today, and we have an issue end our day. It’s frustrating we have the pace, and we just have not been showing it at the end of races. All you can do is push forward. I know the team will give me good cars, and I know that we will be higher in our finishing position soon. It’s cliché, but all the pieces are here, and we just have to put them all together. So thankful to Mecum for coming aboard with me they make what I do possible, and I’m so grateful to have them on my car."

Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda • Starting the race on primary tires, VeeKay managed to hold onto his starting position of P5 as the opening laps came to an end. • VeeKay then focused on preserving his set of Firestone primary tires before pitting on lap 18 while still holding onto a top-five position going as high a P3. • On his second stint of the day, the Dale Coyne Racing team elected to stay out longer to take advantage of clean track ahead, allowing VeeKay to lay down blistering lap times in clear air. • Pitting again on lap 44, VeeKay switched to scuffed alternate tires and continued to push, finding himself in P4 thanks to the pace in the previous stint. • Pitting a final time on lap 65, the Dale Coyne crew fitted VeeKay with another set of fresh alternate tires, allowing the veteran to chase down Scott McLaughlin in P3 coming within three-tenths of the podium, ultimately finishing P4. Post-Race Quote “That was a great day started 5th, finished 4th. We were battling some pretty big hitters out there. That was a great day. I think we had a really good call staying out long on the second stint; we had some really good laps at the end of that stint. The reds hung on really well for us. I got really close to 3rd place only three tenths of a second off at the end. So close, but we did a really good job as a team this weekend to regroup after Practice One. With the threat of rain, we kept everything clean and clear and had a great qualifying, and it translated to a great race. Super grateful for Dale Coyne Racing and askROI for making everything possible for me to be in the car. Also, huge thanks to Honda for giving me the great drivability. Now driving a Honda, I see why everyone loves the drivability of the Honda cars. Looking forward to keeping this up into the Indy GP and the Indianapolis 500.” Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda After starting the race on alternate tires, Abel found himself moving up the grid to P21 at the end of lap 1. Abel put in consistent lap times finding himself in P9 before making his first pitstop on lap 21. The young rookie used this stint to continue to learn around the fast high commitment corners of Barber Motorsports park.. Pitting on lap 41 from P22 The DCR team fitted Abel with a fresh set of tires. After struggling on this set of tires the 51 crew elected to pit again on lap 55 to try an alternative strategy. After this Abel would continue on eventually finishing the day in P 27 in yet another caution free NTT INDYCAR Series race. Post race quote “It's fun to be driving an INDYCAR in May for the first time in my career. This weekend was tough we never had the pace on the reds and that hurt us as the weekend progressed. We never seemed to find the sweet spot that I know we can. Looking forward to Indy, it’s a track I have a lot of experience at on the road course, so I think we can have a pretty productive race there and continue to learn.”
VeeKay Gains Six Spots as Dale Coyne Racing Completes Clean Run at Long Beach
Thermal, California (Sunday, March 23, 2025) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) finished P19 after cutting through the field gaining 6 positions in the caution free race while Jacob Abel (No. 51 Abel Construction Honda) brings the car home in one piece and finishing in P26 . Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race on the alternate tires, VeeKay gained 2 spots in his opening stint, pitting on lap 7 for the Firestone primary tires. Pitting again on lap 34, the Dale Coyne Racing crew fitted the askROI Honda with a fresh set of Firestone alternate tires, gaining 2 spots in the pit sequence putting Veekay into P21. The poised Veteran continued to push as hard as he could setting his fastest lap of the race on lap 44 setting a time of 1:09.012, Continuing on with his impressive pace the Dale Coyne Racing crew pit for their final stop on lap 62. Veekay finished all the laps coming home p19 gaining six spots form his qualifying position in the caution free race. Post-Race Quote: "We raced well and passed some cars just one of those once in a half century races where there's no yellow on a street course. And guess what? We started in the back and needed that yellow. We didn’t have the raw pace we’ve had in previous weekends, but we maximized what we could. The guys had great pit stops, and we beat some competitors in the pit lane and on pit sequence. I think, given our strategy, that was the best we could do. In hindsight, a few guys put everything on black and it hit. It is what it is but all we could do was maximize, and I think we did that. These are the points that make the difference at the end of the season. Tough day, but I think we can be proud of ourselves and go full push into Barber. I want to thank askROI for putting their faith in me this season, and also everything Honda has done for the 50th Anniversary of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting on Firestone alternate tires, Abel settled into the race in the same position as he qualified in the opening Laps. Pitting on Lap 8 The Dale Coyne crew fitted Abel with a fresh set of Firestone Primary tires. The rookie kept his head down and kept pushing and learning, setting his fastest lap of the race on lap 22 of a 1:09.833 . Continuing to learn with each lap Abel finished the Acura Grand Prix of long beach in P26. Post-Race Quote: "We started this weekend in a less than ideal spot, and while both myself and the team improved and learned a lot, we couldn't quite find the pace we needed. I'm happy to bring the car home in one piece, but my goals are a lot higher than that. It's going to take a lot of work to get there, but I know we will. I see it in my team they're motivated just like I am and we're ready to put in the work for Barber. We collected a lot of great data by running all the laps, so we can definitely build off of this".
VeeKay Battles to P17 After Strong Start, Abel Shows Speed Despite Setback at The Thermal Club
Thermal, California (Sunday, March 23, 2025) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay (No. 18 askROI Honda) finished P17 after a promising start saw him consistently running in the top 10. Jacob Abel showed great pace cutting through the field until a mechanical issue forced the rookie to make an unscheduled pit stop. Rinus VeeKay – No. 18 askROI, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting the race on the alternate tires, VeeKay cut through the field, pitting from 8th on lap 12 for primary tires. He continued his climb through the field, reaching P6 before pitting for a set of scuffed red tires. The veteran driver struggled to find grip on the scuffed tires, losing time to the pack of cars ahead. Pitting on lap 43, the Dale Coyne Racing crew fitted the askROI Honda with a fresh set of Firestone alternate tires. On the softer tires, VeeKay returned to his early race pace, clawing his way from P24 back up to P17 while having to fuel save. Post-Race Quote: "Tough race. We started out really well, with good pace, and the tires held on very well in the first two stints. Then it was a question of new blacks or scuffed reds. We opted for scuffed reds since that’s what everyone around us was doing. We need to look into it, but we struggled for grip on that stint, losing a lot of lap time. In the end, we pitted early and had a big fuel number to hit, but we still drove from P24 to P17 on strategy. Some good takeaways—some positives, some negatives. For how tough the race was, we definitely made the most of it and minimized the damage. I think P13 in the championship is solid, weekends like this will happen. Let’s learn from this and go into Long Beach with a better plan. Huge thanks to askROI, as always, for their continued support of me and the team. They make everything we do possible, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that." Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda Starting on Firestone alternate tires, Abel avoided the lap-one incidents and had blistering pace, gaining spots from his starting position. Abel continued to show promising pace until a mechanical issue forced him to make an unscheduled pit stop. The determined rookie kept his head down and kept pushing, setting his fastest lap of the race on lap 50 with a time of 1:44.978. Continuing to learn with each lap and running competitive times, Abel finished the race in P25. Post-Race Quote: "Well, I won’t lie that one hurts a bit. We had a mechanical issue come up that forced us to pit at a time when it really hurt our strategy, but that’s racing. It’s easy to just look at the negatives, but we had really good pace today. I was feeling good and passing cars on our first stint, and the crew found me a lot of speed throughout the weekend. We need to keep our heads up and build on the positives for Long Beach, and I know we will. I can feel myself learning more and more every lap I’m on track, so being able to finish these races has really helped my understanding of this car."

VeeKay then worked his way up to 11th before making his next stop on Lap 34. On his Lap 34 stop, the Dale Coyne Racing crew fitted him with another set of fresh primary tires. Continuing to cut his way through the field, VeeKay climbed to 10th before coming in for his final pit stop on Lap 66. With his final set of primary tires, VeeKay secured 9th place, earning his first top-10 finish of 2025 in the season opener. Post-Race Quote “What a great first race with Dale Coyne Racing for me. It was a tough but good race—moving up from 12th to 9th was a solid step. My goals for this weekend were to get into the Firestone Fast 12 and finish in the top 10, and that’s exactly how it went. We had great teamwork, and there is always room for improvement because it’s still only our first weekend together. With time, we will get better. Thanks to Dale, the team, and Honda for their support this season, and thank you to askROI for their support for a second season in a row.” Jacob Abel – No. 51 Abel Construction, Dale Coyne Racing Honda After starting the race on alternate tires, Abel also utilized the Lap 1 caution to switch to Firestone primary tires. Abel put in consistent lap times before pitting again on Lap 35, where the Dale Coyne Racing crew fitted him with another set of primary tires. On Lap 58, Abel set his fastest lap of the race, recording a time of 01:03.292. The rookie wrapped up his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES race of the year in 23rd, a two-position improvement from his starting spot. Post race quote "Well, my first race is done and over. I learned a lot this weekend, and we made some strides for improvement that we can continue into the coming events. I can’t thank the team, Dale, and everyone who helped me along the way enough. Honestly, I can’t believe I’m able to say I’m an NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver. I look forward to learning and growing this season. We brought the car home in one piece and gained some spots from where I qualified. We can definitely grow from this performance"
