Heartbreak for Harvey at World Wide Technology Raceway

Madison, Ill. (Saturday, August 17, 2024) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Jack Harvey (No. 18 INVST Honda, Dale Coyne Racing) was on his way to his best finish of the season when he was taken out during a restart with 10 laps remaining. As for his teammate Katherine Legge, (No. 51 e.l.f. Cosmetics Honda) she was involved in an early incident which put an end to her race on Lap 8.

Jack Harvey, #18 INVST, Dale Coyne Racing Honda

Started: 26th
Finished: 20th

• Harvey had a good start to the 260-lap race, moving up a couple of positions on the first lap.
• He continued to move up, taking advantage of a couple of full course cautions and restarts.
• The driver of the No. 18 INVST Honda was sitting 18th for the Lap 27 restart.
• Harvey spent most of the first part of the race in the top 20 and moved into the top 16 on Lap 85.
• He continued to run in the top 15 and was 12th when another full course caution came out on Lap 196.
• The British driver was putting in competitive lap times, running as high as sixth at one point, and was on his way to what could have possibly been his best finish of the season.
• Unfortunately, Harvey was hit from behind on a Lap 250 restart while he was in 12th.
• The impact sent him spinning into the outside wall and down into the inside wall, putting an end to his race with less than 10 laps remaining.

Post Race Quote
“I’m not sure who it was that was behind me on the restart, but as I checked up because of the melee ahead of me, they didn’t, and hit me. I hit the outside wall and then the inside wall and that was the end of our race. It felt like we had a good race going. I thought the car was really quick, which is why our issue in qualifying was a disappointment. In the race we were on pace for our season best so that’s a shame. It’s such a bummer to get taken out so close to the end of the race, but maybe it’s helped us generate a little bit of momentum going into Portland next weekend.”

Katherine Legge, #51 e.l.f. Cosmetics, Dale Coyne Racing with RWR Honda

Started: 27th
Finished: 27th

• Legge’s race was unfortunately short-lived when she made contact with another competitor on Lap 8 of the 260-lap event.
• While the No. 51 e.l.f. Cosmetics Honda suffered minimal damage in the incident, it was enough to put an end to what was her fourth NTT INDYCAR SERIES start of the season.

Post Race Quote
“It wasn’t a significant hit but just enough to put us out of the race. I was on the bottom trying to get by Ed Carpenter who was struggling. Unfortunately, we made contact and that was the end of the race for us. It’s unfortunate because our e.l.f. Cosmetics Honda was strong.”
