Another Strong Performance for Katherine Legge in Iowa
Newton, IA (Sunday, July 14, 2024) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Katherine Legge had another strong run at Iowa Speedway on Sunday, taking the checkered flag in 24th place. Conor Daly, who was a substitute driver for an injured Jack Harvey, also ran competitively but a mechanical failure on his #18 INVST Honda put an early end to his race on Lap 139.

Started: 24th
Finished: 24th
• After placing 17th in Race 1 at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, Legge was confident heading into Race 2 on Sunday.
• The driver of the #51 e.l.f. Cosmetics Honda picked up a few spots at the beginning of the race to take over 21st place.
• With very little passing happening anywhere on track, Legge maintained her position for most of her first stint and had moved up to 17th by the time she entered pit lane on Lap 96.
• An untimely yellow on Lap 100, caused her to fall to 24th once everyone had made their initial pit stops.
• Legge continued to run competitively, running the same pace as the lead cars throughout the 250-lap event.
• She made her final pit stop on Lap 200 and went on to take the checkered flag in 24th place.

“It was an unfortunate result for the pace that we had, I think had we been a bit luckier on the first yellow and not pitted when we did, I think we would have been fighting up there, but you can’t predict these things. When we were running around the lead pack, we were able to run their pace so, I guess next time we have to do better in qualifying to start closer to the front. It was great to have this experience this weekend and to keep learning as we go. The car was really good, so happy days.”
Conor Daly, #18 INVST, Dale Coyne Racing Honda
Started: 27th
Finished: 27th
• Jack Harvey’s replacement for Race 2 in Iowa, Conor Daly turned his first laps of the weekend aboard the #18 INVST car earlier in the day during a special on track session.
• Due to the driver change, Daly had to start from the rear of the grid.
• Daly ran strong right from the start, picking up a few positions in the opening laps.
• He ran 24th for the near majority of his first stint.
• Like his teammate, Daly was running as fast as the leaders and maintained the gaps to his closest competitors throughout his time on track.
• He made his first pit stop from 24th on Lap 85.
• Unfortunately for Daly, a mechanical failure on his Honda-powered machine ended his day on Lap 139.
Post Race Quote
“We had a mechanical issue of some kind. I just felt something go. You can kind of always know when that happens. It’s a shame but these things happen, this is motorsports, it’s a hard game to play. Until then I was having a lot of fun. I passed a lot of cars right off the gate and we were fast enough to be in the game. Dale Coyne Racing gave me a great car. I had a lot to learn and they were helping me out with it. It’s a shame that it had to end early for sure.”
