“Obviously it was a disappointing session. I feel like things had been trending a little bit better than that through practice. The field is really competitive right now and it’s really, really hard. I’m sure between me and Luca you can look through the day and find where he was quicker than me and I was quicker than him, but the amount that we’re looking for right now isn’t going to be found only in our driving. There’s a lot of work that we need to do. I think it was a bit of a dejecting session because at least through the start of the weekend it felt like we were better than where we ended up today. Hopefully we’ll have a good race, we’re always positive about that. We saw last year that it can be a bit of a mental race so as long as we see the checkered flag and we’re on the lead lap then something good can happen.”
Luca Ghiotto, #51 GAV Air Technology, Dale Coyne Racing with RWR Honda
Starting: 27th
• Ghiotto went out in Group 2 for Segment 1 of qualifying.
• The driver of the #51 GAV Air Technology Honda improved with every lap and put in a fastest time of 1:08.5078 on his eighth and final lap of the session.
• Ghiotto is making his fourth NTT INDYCAR SERIES start of the season.
Post Qualifying Quote
“Laguna Seca is such a great track, I love it! It’s one of those tracks that is on your wish list to drive one day. I don’t know how many hours I spent driving this track on video games while I was younger so it’s great to be here driving it for real. The atmosphere is great and it’s also my first time in California so it’s nice to see a bit of a different part of the United States. Regarding qualifying today, I think where we ended up was disappointing, because it felt like our performance was better than the end result. Tomorrow is another day, and I’m confident that we can do better in the race.”
